For this special class, chef extraordinaire and native son of southern Louisiana, John Besh will join us in the Sur La Table kitchen to demonstrate 4 recipes from his new cookbook, Cooking from the Heart. Chef Besh’s nine acclaimed restaurants celebrate the bounty and traditions of the New Orleans region, but for this class he will return to the root cuisines that brought him there, from Black Forest, Germany to Provence, France. With his trademark expertise and generosity, Besh will share stories of what he’s learned, from mastering skills to discovering cooking as a passionate expression of life, while he reveals his winning spirit in every dish he makes.
Food & Wine named John Besh one of the “Top 10 Best New Chefs in America,” and he won the coveted James Beard Award for Best Chef of the Southeast in 2006. In 2009, he was awarded Food Arts’ Silver Spoon Award for revitalizing the culinary legacy of New Orleans. The Louisiana Restaurant Association named him Restaurateur of the Year in 2008. He is the host of two national public television cooking shows, based on his award-winning cookbooks: Chef John Besh’s New Orleans, and the new Chef John Besh’s Family Table, which debuted in April 2013.
