In a French press, combine the ground coffee and crushed cardamom pods. Pour in the hot water, add the vanilla, and stir gently to bloom the grounds. Cover with the lid and steep for 4–6 minutes, depending on desired strength.
Slowly press the plunger down until fully depressed, then divide the coffee between two mugs. Sweeten with honey or brown sugar and finish with a splash of steamed milk, if desired. Serve immediately.
