Do you need a metal ring for the wok to sit in to use it?

I can see that my wok has a 5 inch diameter flat bottom where it is heated up by my induction stove. Speaking from my experience using it, the wok tends to rotate and slide around when bumped, otherwise it sits on its own. Mine has never fallen off the stove even though I've accidentally bumped it a few times. It's still better to be careful. I don't use a wok ring and I don't recommend it. The wok ring can scratch the glass surface of the induction stove. The wok ring can also burn very hot from the induction if the ring is made of a magnetic material.
