A serrated-blade tomato knife is ideal for tomatoes with delicate skins and juicy interiors. The serrations help you start the cut easily, then glide through for cleaner slices with less crushing.
Set the tomato on a stable cutting board and angle the pronged-tip tomato knife into the stem area. Work the tip around the core, then lift it out, you can follow with slicing once the center is removed.
A serrated blade uses small teeth to bite into slippery skin, so you do not need to press down as hard to get started. With a light, steady sawing motion, the blade can cut cleanly while helping preserve the tomato’s shape.
Yes, a serrated tomato knife can be helpful anytime you are cutting soft, delicate foods with skins that can resist a straight edge. Reach for it when you want more control on items that tend to squish under pressure.
Let the teeth do the work and use a gentle back-and-forth motion instead of pushing straight down. Start at the edge of the tomato, keep your strokes short and even, then finish the cut with the same light pressure.
