Will it re!move seeds from raspberries ?
Apr 9, 2020
Best Answer:The inset with the smallest holes will remove most raspberry seeds. I make a raspberry coulis and have successfully eliminated almost all seeds with this insert. I do, though, spin the raspberries with the sugar and balsamic vinegar in a blender first. That speeds the process with the food mill. I had a plastic food mill before I bought this one. This one is easier to clean, though you'll need a brush to remove all of the seeds. I also like to folding legs, making it easier to store.

I have a cheaper food mill and it seems like little bits of metal come off of the center bolt as you turn it because I can see a gray/black spot in the middle of the food in the bowl when I'm done. Has anyone had that issue with this one?
Nov 5, 2018
Best Answer:I have never had this happen with this wonderful food mill. Plus it is easier to turn than the cheaper version, which I used for many years. Additionally, it helps that the legs fit onto the top of a big bowl. Overall I find that this food mill is well worth the money. I use it primarily for applesauce, made with the skin on to add color and nutrients.

What disc do you use for applesauce?
Sep 12, 2018
Best Answer:I use whichever disc was on the food mill when I bought it. I never even worried about this, and I don't really think it matters. The main thing is using a food mill to make applesauce, which is much much better than any other way. Do not peel the apples. Just quarter and core them. Do not add sugar or anything else except maybe a little bit of water. Cook covered over a medium flame until they are all mushy. Then put them through the food mill, and viola! Applesauce can be frozen and still tastes as good.

Does the mill come with an instruction book/recipe book?
Aug 14, 2017
Best Answer:You get a small pictorial instruction foldout that explains the use of each of the 3 inserts with different sized holes suggesting some of the foods they can mill. Also showis how to put together and clean. There are no recipes included, however. I use for milling roasted tomatoes, (seeds and skins), before making marinara sauce and cleaning seeds , remaining skin and core as well as attaining the smooth texture for gravenstein applesauce prior to freezing for the year.

French Style Fish Soup. This is made using a selection of various fish, both small and large, together with shell fish, veg and seasoning. Does the Oxo Food Mill sieve out the shell and bones ok?
May 16, 2017
Best Answer:I don't think this would be the best option for your soup such as "bouillabaisse" that may contain hard shells and pieces of fish and seafood you want to preserve for the finished soup.. This item is designed for straining and pressing soups like a butternut squash soup or clearing applesauce from skin and seeds leaving a smooth finished product. I would choose to use a "chin wah" or simply a "fine mesh colander" from your home appliances. You will then be able to press and drain the stock without breaking up the contents too much. Good Luck!
